Track Laying Complete

The Permanent Way gang from the Wardrobe Railway have completed track laying.  The first complete run along the full length of the railway was captured on film.

First Train Movement

The loco department have taken the opportunity to run the Hunslet diesel down a section of the newly laid track.  A video of the historic occasion was taken by a member of the department.

Track Laying Commenced

The Permanent Way gang of the wardrobe have commenced tracks laying.  On the afternoon of Friday 6th September 4 metres of track were laid.  This exhausted both the workers, and the companies stock of track.  Further track is being sought.

Track Route Finalised

Following several weeks of negotiations with the relevant local councils and  numerous landowners, the WR board has been able to conclude upon the route of the WR.  The contract for building the earthworks has been given to Lifton Muvitt who have already made good progress in establishing the trackbed.  With the route set, the next job is to form the various gradients and elevations into their final positions.

Construction of First Steam Locomotive Begins

There has been much excitement it the WR locomotive works in the last week.  Following the summer shutdown construction has commence of the first steam locomotive for the WR.  It is to an Hunslet 'Alice Class' design.





The engineer in charge of the build commented that prospective passengers should not, "hold their breathe," as there is still much work to be done before this locomotive will be hauling trains.  And besides, the WR have not actually laid any track yet!

Paint Shop Opens

The paint shop at the Wardrobe Railways locomotive works has now opened and the first two items have received the painters attention.

The Hunslet diesel has received a coat of deep blue, whilst the coach has had applied the dark red that all the passenger stock will bare.

Wagon Construction Commenced

In a surprise move, the carriage and wagon works of the WR worked yesterday evening to construct the first piece of rolling stock.  The photo shows the goods van following completion and waiting to enter the paint shop.  Painting may take some time as the board is currently unable to agree on what liveries to apply to the railways locomotives, coaches and goods stock.

Rolling Stock Purchase

The WR board is pleased to announce the purchase of a number of items of rolling stock.  This includes both passenger and goods stock.  The stock has been purchased as 'kits of parts' which will be assembled and painted in the railways own Carriage and Wagon Works.

Wardrobe Railway place order for first locomotive

The board has announced the purchase of its first locomotive.  It has been decided to purchase the locomotive in kit form.  Final assembly and painting will be carried out by the railway's own locomotive works.

The locomotive is a 60HP diesel manufactured by Hunslet.  The images below show an earlier locomotive of the same type.

Delivery of the locomotive parts is expected within the next 1 to 2 weeks.

WR Board Announce Land Purchase

In what some have described as a rash move, the board of the Wardrobe Railway have pushed ahead with the purchase of the required land before full funding has been raised.  The board "are confident" that the funding will be available by the end of this week.

Funding Required


The board of the Wardrobe Railway are currently seeking financial backing.  A number of existing assets are currently up for offer.  Once the funding is secured the board hope to purchase the required land.

This day, the twenty eighth of June two thousand and thirteen, marks the formation of the board of the Wardrobe Railway.

The board is pursuing the purchase of land with a view to the formation of a narrow gauge light railway.
